This medicine is prescribed for patients who suffer from extreamly high cholesterol levels. This medicine taken along with a low-fat diet, can effectively reduce LDL cholesterol, commonly referred to as the "bad" cholesterol, triglyceride levels and total cholesterol, while increasing the HDL, or "good" cholesterol. The statins work by blocking an enzyme in the liver that are used by our body to make cholesterol. This results in a lower level of cholesterol circulation and reduced risk of hardening of the arteries and plaque accumulation in blood vessel walls.
